An Interview with Arion Salazar
of Third Eye Blind

Backstage Pass Special by Debbie Seagle

Back to Part 1 or 2

D:  Can you tell me a little bit about your EP project - "Black?"

A:  Its not actually started yet.  Some of the instrumentals are written.  Its going to be mostly instrumentals and a few songs with lyrics.

D:  It will have the lyrics to "Slow Motion" on it though, won’t it?

A:  Yeah it will have that and some other songs, mostly instrumental.

D:  So this is something for the Third Eye Blind faithful?  Will it only be available on your web site?

A:  No, it will be in stores, we just want to make it, incredibly cheap so the real fans can get it and just listen to some new music.

D:  Okay, so your first CD was all red (the cover), and your second CD is called "Blue."  Now your EP will be "Black."  Do we have a color theme going here?  When does the yellow version come out?

A:  That would be our fifth album, because we actually have to do "Burnt Sienna" and "Peach" first.

D:  Oh, I like "Mauve."

A:  Actually, there wasn’t any color theme going.

D:  Oh, so no one could come up with a catchy title, huh?

A:  Right.  If you look on the "Blue" CD cover, see how that kind of planet - its actually a moon - is all blue with the swirling gases around it?  And see how on the spine of the CD are all of our pictures in colors?  We look real serious.

D:  Yeah, you do look really serious.  You look like you have this Fu Manchu mustache going on.

A:  Yeah, I thought we looked like super heroes or something.  Did you ever see Superman II, where they have those criminals that are on trial?

D:  You mean the ones in the cubes?

A:  Yeah!  That’s what I thought we looked like.  I wanted to call the CD (in his announcer voice again) "Defender’s of the Universe."  But nobody else liked it.

D:  Oh, they’re no fun.  I like it.  Well, I know you want to get going and get ready for the Hard Rock show, and get your t-shirt and all, so I’ll just wish you much luck with the success of "Blue" and safe travels.  Thanks for your time Arion!

A:  You’re welcome, no problem.  Bye!
