An Interview with Arion Salazar
of Third Eye Blind

Backstage Pass Special by Debbie Seagle

Back to Part 1 or 2

D:  Can you tell me a little bit about your EP project - "Black?"

A:  Its not actually started yet.  Some of the instrumentals are written.  Its going to be mostly instrumentals and a few songs with lyrics.

D:  It will have the lyrics to "Slow Motion" on it though, won’t it?

A:  Yeah it will have that and some other songs, mostly instrumental.

D:  So this is something for the Third Eye Blind faithful?  Will it only be available on your web site?

A:  No, it will be in stores, we just want to make it, incredibly cheap so the real fans can get it and just listen to some new music.

D:  Okay, so your first CD was all red (the cover), and your second CD is called "Blue."  Now your EP will be "Black."  Do we have a color theme going here?  When does the yellow version come out?

A:  That would be our fifth album, because we actually have to do "Burnt Sienna" and "Peach" first.

D:  Oh, I like "Mauve."

A:  Actually, there wasn’t any color theme going.

D:  Oh, so no one could come up with a catchy title, huh?

A:  Right.  If you look on the "Blue" CD cover, see how that kind of planet - its actually a moon - is all blue with the swirling gases around it?  And see how on the spine of the CD are all of our pictures in colors?  We look real serious.

D:  Yeah, you do look really serious.  You look like you have this Fu Manchu mustache going on.

A:  Yeah, I thought we looked like super heroes or something.  Did you ever see Superman II, where they have those criminals that are on trial?

D:  You mean the ones in the cubes?

A:  Yeah!  That’s what I thought we looked like.  I wanted to call the CD (in his announcer voice again) "Defender’s of the Universe."  But nobody else liked it.

D:  Oh, they’re no fun.  I like it.  Well, I know you want to get going and get ready for the Hard Rock show, and get your t-shirt and all, so I’ll just wish you much luck with the success of "Blue" and safe travels.  Thanks for your time Arion!

A:  You’re welcome, no problem.  Bye!

It's good to hear things from other people in the band and he is one hell of a bass player. Third Eye Blind kicks ass, and hopefully someday I'll get the pleasure of seeing them in concert.

Arion is cool. The interviewer was kinda annoying.

Amanda
Thank you guys so much for the interview with Arion from Thrid Eye Blind! They are my absolute favorite band, and it was really cool to hear his insights. Keep up the the good work and I hope to hear more on 3EB in the future!

Heidi
Rock on! That was a seriously awesome article!!! That is definitly rad that you guys featured Arion, he has some seriously sweet insights! So thanks for the interview, and thanks for asking a variety of questions, not just the ones you see in all the inte

nicolai
he's cool, but the one thing, is his bass lines. i'm a bass player myself, and Arion's lines are just boring. i mean d@mn, i could fall asleep!

TO HELL WITH STEPHAN D. JENKINS
Stephan jenkins is a bastard!!! Arion you best stop STephan in his tracks as soon as you can cuz that bastard is gonna take YOUR money and credit TOO!!! He takes credit for everything to do w/ 3eb so WATCH YOUR BACK! You should have gone with KEVIN!

Chum Boy RULES!
Yeah Chum BOY! You're AWESOME! Stephan is gonna be piss poor period when Kevin kicks his ass with the lawsuit. YEAH BABY YEAH! 3eb is going down anyway because musically they are a f*ckin mess now that they don't have Kevin. Tony is the most pathetic player in the whole world! Where's his godd*mn emotion when he's onstage? He has none! He's a monkey! A really really stupid monkey who can't cover Kevin's music because he is not nearly as talented. And then there's Stupid Stephan who can't play guitar and has someone play guitar for him backstage. sheesh. So sad really. so sad

Chum-Boy
Of course Stephens a jerk! did anyone see what an A-hole he made of himself on MTV's battle of the cover bands? He's a piss poor judge of character and he's made a spectacle of his ridiculous, self righteous and pompous self.

Claire keeps going
Just because we're Hawai'i doesn't mean we're not fans and out of date. anyway, laters! and thanks Rock N World for interviewing my fav. band THIRD EYE BLIND! ^_^

Claire continues
e way the songs sometimes connected. like in "Darkness" "I want someone to know me, Maybe tell me who I am, 'Cuz I've faced down my demons, And cried out to a God, A God I've never seen." I also hope that they come to Hawai'i! We're important too! J

Claire
Well, I'd like to say that so Kevin has left the band, and they've replaced him, I just hope their music and lyrics will still be pheonomenal. I mean, I haven't heard a lot of the words that are in the songs ever before. I mean, fradulent? wow. and th

cripsy D
Tony Faginelli sucks! He is a sh1tty excuse for a guitarist and does not belong in third eye blind. arion needs to stand up for Kevin because kevin because he knows damn well that kevin shouldn't have been kicked out of the band.

Anna
Well Arion's a pretty cool dude. He's always been my fave bass player and he's pretty damn talented. I'm glad that he actually gives credit to Kevin for being in the band and writing oh, over 60% of the music. Stephan would never mention Kevin because Stephan's an a**hole, but whatever Stephan SUCKS anyway! You still should've asked why they dumped Kevin like that though. I bet it was all Stephan...that bastard!

joytoy
the interview was great thank you for sharing with all the fans..i love 3eb and actually got to meet the band members after the show in Tampa,Fl ..they are all a great group of guys..but i lift my hat to ARION !! hes just as nice in person as he seems in the interview and took the time to talk to me one on one ..thanks again and i hope they come back soon:)

Lettia
I'm a huge fan of 3EB, and the interview was one of the best ever! Arion was great and she did a great job of interviewing him. It auctually had some facts that I have never read before.

Julianne
This was a great interview. I'm a huge Third Eye Blind fan, but even a bigger Arion fan. He was my inspiration to start bass. I now I love it. I can't put it down. But anyways, you did a great job interviewing and I learned some cool stuff about him and the band. So thanks!

SARAH
I'm a huge fan of 3eb, and I'd just like to say that interview was awesome. Arion is a great guy and you did such a great job interviewing him. Thanks alot :)

sabrina
Arion sounds ssooo cool to talk to. I have to say that Im really glad that you picked him to talk to. Maybe next time ask for some tips on how to meet the bandwhen there on the road. Thank you!

Lisa
This was a great interview. It makes me want to talk to Arion in person. It's a really positive, enlightning interview. Thanks!

Maria
Wow - That must have been fun to interview third eye blind!

Stud-muff'n
How come you didn't ask him why they dumped Kevin so rudely? Arion seems like a pretty cool dude. Guess he would have to be to put up with Jenkins.
