F*** Off And Die - Anti All Review

by Matt Hensch

.
The heart of a project named F*** Off And Die should be self-explanatory. Led by one Kommander L., this aptly-named Lithuanian band is a barrage of black metal/crossover in the vein of Carpathian Forest, Darkthrone, and Hellhammer with some various influences on the side. Just the name "Anti All" implies copious amounts of nihilistic terror topped off by feelings of pure hate and war, situations enriched by the frenzied pace of programmed drums and blackened riffs charging over lyrical venom. It's a cool album that conveys its message of misanthropy through frantic beatings and nonstop vitriol felt in both music and spirit; fifty minutes of unrelenting abhorrence from the bottom to the top.

"Anti All" is demo-quality in sound, raw and unkempt. There is no goofing around here; the pace is always blazing, drums pounding and chords burning. Little occurs that would pitch these black metal riffs and thrash-based sections beyond basic imagination, but they are lethal in the grungy mix, always ruthlessly heavy. I personally enjoy the structured black metal foundations of songs like "Hate, Indifference and Alcoholism," which yield handfuls of vehement riffs and a wonderful ability to translate the project's unrelenting sense of dislike for all. Yet there is enough room to allow short, grind-inspired bursts like "Nothing Happens" to feel right at home, still unrestrained and savage like you wouldn't believe.

"War - The Only Hygiene of the World" is the lone irregularity of the group, but a powerful one at that. Eleven minutes of sampled gunfire and explosions, militaristic snare pounds, and creepy synth sections make it a notable slice between the relentless salvos on either side. Samples from several well-known movies (e.g., Terminator 2, American Psycho, Apocalypse Now) act as welcoming mats for most of the cuts, typically introducing the lyrical underpinnings of war, hatred for mankind, nihilism, destruction. "Anti All" sounds like an album that truly is against this, that, you, me, and whatever else falls under the blanket term of 'all.' A nice fine for those who love hate and want some violence.
