Bleeding Through - Declaration Review

by Dave Jordan

.
Declaration marks another chapter by storied metalcore heavy hitters Bleeding Through. This album is like their previous full-length efforts in that it seems to be a mix of songs that are great and songs that are just mediocre.

They certainly have not abandoned their tried and true formula of combining the speedy riffs of metal, the darker elements of black metal, and the agonizing aggression of modern hardcore. The title track helps set the pace for the album, complete with the seizure-inducing riffage and thick breakdowns that one has come to expect from the band.

Despite the band's line up change for this album, the band has been able to maintain their signature sound. Like their previous albums, it carries a brutal, mosh-friendly element that should make for an interesting live show. Unfortunately, this album does not see the band breaking any new ground, something one might expect from a band as experienced as Bleeding Through. Admittedly, this is good news for any avid Bleeding Through fans out there now, but I would have liked to see them get outside their comfort zone a little bit on this one. Maybe it will happen next time.
