Tim LeClair
Nevermore's Dreaming Neon Black is the best damn album of all time, let alone this year. Also Amorphis' Tuonela. I'm also inclined to agree with the Alive in Athens choice.

NITZ
the black crows

Monolithic
Taproot is the fukn SH1T. Staind, Spineshank, and Static-X also kick a$$. Iced Earth is weak, and so are all those mainstream pop bands you thought were good. Lit? Marcy Playground's Shapeshifter is way better

GUY
Everyone forgot about the real musicians and singers, and they went along with what "popular" is. Nobody voted for the Cranberries or their c.d. "Bury The Hatchet", it was a GREAT album. Except that nobody voted for it, that means that everyone just listens to what other people and the radio stations want them to hear.

Mikos
RHCP - 'califorincation' is a symbol of everything that's wrong with modern music. A pop album aimed at the lowest common denominator, using poppy melodies and hollow lyrics with no real meaning. Listen to System of a Down and Tool and take step toward self realisation.

Mikos
System Of A Down Tool

THE MAN
"RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS - CALIFORNICATION" is by far the album of the year for 1999. A masterpiece in my mind, and a refreshing sound from the early '90s.

Brian Gould
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black best album of 1999, Creed's album is near the worst, positive message does not make a great album, great music does, Human Clay is WELL below their debut.

ray
Buch of American S**t!! Limp Cr*p, Kid Cr*p, Cr*p 182 yoy may as well like Nsync!!! Try listening to some music that isn't played on heavy rotation on MTV. Tool and NIN and Pantera were about the only good bands any of you poor fools mentioned!Therapy? are cooool! Oh what a 'rock' site! I cant even swear without some V chip peice of excreta censoring me! AAAAAAAGGGGGGHAAAAAARRRRRRRRR

Roger
I agree with Amber. Lemon Parade was one of my favorite albums of the 90s. Now Sugar is my favorite of the 21st century. This band captures the essence of the Stadium rock of the 70's, the power of the experimental musician of the 60's, the song writing sensibities of the 80's. This band ranks up there with Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, Boston, The Eagles. They are the only band with the courage to play real rock instead of the mindless dribble of most bands.

fUnkEr
kOrN aNd LiMp bIzKiT

Amber
Adam you obviously never heard Tonic. If you had you would not call them late 90's pop blandness. They are one of the only real rock bands out today. Next time listen before your open your mouth so you won't look like a stupid neanderthal.

Leonardo!!!Brazil
RATM,Bad Religion, Coal Chamber, Ozzy!!!God bless rock'n roll

Guess who!?!
GOO GOO DOLLS!!!!! John Rzeznik has the greatest voice & the lyrics to their songs are great! I saw them in concert 3x and every time was amazing.....Tonic is a great group, too....."You know I don't listen good, and I'm always in need...why do you gotta be so mean to me?".....

Laura & Zilker
blink; rage; tonic; googoodolls; thirdeyeblind; buckcherry; and we heard slipknot was a pretty cool album, too.

Slip Knot

Tea Party, Powderfinger

NIN~ the Fragile. Although i still like Downward Spiral a hell of a lot betta, The fragile (compared to the otha "music" that came out in '99) Fragile is the best. And to all u ppl who think that 1999 was the worst year in music, let me remind u of something: April 5, 1994~ the day musical integrity *sp?* died.

Adam
has anybody here even heard Beck's "Midnite Vultures." this album is hilarious parody while at the same time innovative experimentation, more than i can say for creed or tonic, arbiters of late-ninties pop blandness. and what about Tom Waits' "Mule Variations?" folk, blues, and some things never quite heard before are mixed to create the most unique music i've heard in a while.

pantera is going to beat all of them next year, plus ozzy to. if you don't like it don't listeno

dj Heaven
best crossover everlast??? no way -- G Love & Special Sauce have combined hiphop & blues for years and matured their sound even more with their best-to-date album "Philidelphonic". Other picks of 99 for me are Moby's "Play", Macy Gray, Stereolab "Cobra and Phases...", Meshell Ndegeocello "Bitter", Californication, The Roots "things fall apart" and 311's "Soundsystem" (They've still got it.) Look a little deeper for music and you're gonna find way better stuff than Lit & Creed

dr fever
all you mindless drones swilling down your daily dose of MTV-led bullsh!t...where we're yall when limp bizkit wasn't on trl everyother day and fred durst didn't have the world largest ego??? where were you when KoRn wasn't anywhere near MTV but their first album was rockin ballz??? do you even know that kid rock had two albums BEFORE devil without a cause??? did you even know who metallica was BEFORE the "black album"?(no!) You people are the same people who voted (in order)1.Korn 2. Limp Bizkit and 3. Orgy as the "Best bands of the millenium" in Hit parader! OVER the Beatles, The Who, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Kiss, Aerosmith, and so forth and so on.....Do you people know what good music is????? Do you realize that the best album 1999 produced was from an indie label in chicago (victory records) and it was put out by a canadian hardcore band(grade-"under the radar")????? Of course you don't....it wasn't on MTV and Carson Daily didn't interiew them...so no, you people know NOTHING!!!!

amelia marmy16 at aol.com
SILVERCHAIR "NEON BALLROOM" thats heart and soul right there. Then we have Third Eye Blinds followup "Blue" NIN the Fragile, Sunny Day Real Estate, Our Lady Peace, Bush The science of things, Counting Crows... come on people! your choices are ok, but could be 100% better! wheres mxpx? foo fighters? kittie? pennywise? buckcherry? not even any Beck?? could definitely be 100% better!! better luck next year = )

i spelled limp bizkit wrong! Sorry- it was an honest mistake, i'm really not a retard!

123456789
i agree with you about creed's human clay,it's a terrific album; jimmies chicken shack's bring your own stereo is a high quality cd; i thought limp biskit's first album was so much better than significant other; korn- they used to be so good!korn and life is peachy were great,i mean they have a few selected songs from issues and follow the leader that i like but nothing can compare to thier old stuff!but Dave Siveria is still hot as hell! Eminem's cd is fun! It makes me laugh and wanna dance! He's a great artist! and all the annoying boy bands and girls who can't sing(umm..brittany spears) can kiss it! they should write thier own lyrics about things they think, feel and believe in and then maybe i could bear to listen to one of thier songs!

ho
rage against the machine- battle of los angeles. kenny g- breathless

ho
album of the year...couldn't tell you. 311's is great, but not as good as earlier ones. korn, kicks a##- as usual. limp bizkit- enough said about them. eminem has some nice "stuff", he'd be better if he collaborated with the likes of limp bizkit (he has, once), korn and others. korn should do some more songs like "all in the family". that was tight. don't know much else

MSP, well the best band in the whole universe, no doubt it. politics, passion, history, meaning, listen to those lyrics, Nicky Wire, James Dean Bradfield, Sean Moore. And don`t forget Richey, you are always on my mind. "The Masses Against The Classes" is out now. There`s no other bands who could even be close to Manics. Sorry to say that but that`s the way it is.

Robert
Korn s uck,Creed S uck,Godsmack smell,Everlast smells,Slipknot is boring,Limp Bizkit is ok,but annoying sometimes,Goo Goo Dolls are all poppy now and 311 is retarded. Lit is cool,i met them when they opened for Garbage.Go listen to some good music.

Nate Wachter
Korn Issues

Kreator
here is another one: Kreator "endorama"-real heavy metal.

Kreator
Testament "the gathering"- best heavy metal album.

Lars (DK)
"Enema of the state" by Blink 182 is the best punk album of 1999. I like the sound, Palm muted power chords, energy, poppy tunes - a real party album. Can't wait to see them live. I like the fact that their videos is full of humor, the same goes for LIT. It's cool the way Blink 182 pop up in the video for "Zip-lock", I interviewed LIT last year in Copenhagen - they are four really nice guys - hopefully we will get a change to see them again soon -more info www.angelfire.com/music/SubZero

Lars (DK)
"A place in the sun" by Lit is my choise for rock album of the year. Reason - they rock!

ICEMAN
TOMMYD IS RIGHT. 1999 COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE LAME. LONG LIVE ROCK!!

maryjane
creed and tonic rock!!!! great music and profound lyrics, not a bunch of "noice" like some people i know. oh yeah, PHISH rules!!

Enuff Z Nuff's cd PARAPHERNALIA

Mikhail Capone
Aggaloch - Pale Folklore

Tommi Gunn
Best album of 1999 is Paraphernalia by Enuff Z'nuff. Maybe the music industry executives out there will pull their heads out of their asses and sign this band to a major deal so the whole country can rediscover the power, majesty and peaceful harmony of Enuff Z'nuff. Nuff said?

Mike
The obvious choices would be my two favorites Rage Against The Machine and Nine Inch Nails. Who even compares to those guys talent right now? No one.

Newdreamer
I got to disagree! Godsmack rules supreme, if you've heard their stuff, you know it's true.

J.S
I can't deny that the songs nominated here kick a$$.But why no Mechanical Animals?Marilyn,if you're reading this,i just want you to know that i'll vote for your album anytime!

Chris Knobloch
You guy's are all wrong. Mr. Bungle's California was the best album by far. I'm so sick of these bands conforming to what's cool. They're all spewing out the same junk. Try something different. Korn was good and STP. Let's not forget Incubus. Good punk albums like Anti-Flag, Pennywise, and the Misfits shouldn't go unoticed. Fantomas was up their too for best album.

Ian
Mr. Bungle - California

Shelly
THANK YOU~~~~! I saw your album of the year by Neurotica and took the chance and bought it. I LOVE IT~~~! Thanks~~!

Dazza
Rock is alive and well and living Down Under.I have four top albums for 99,two from the USA,one from Oz and one from my country New Zealand.I agree about Everlast that album surprised me too-not a rap fan-and I really rate SmashMouth -Astro Lounge. Not a rock album but this is music to throw on at a party cos no one will turn it off-it just plain grooves. The Oz album I rate is by Regurgitator and called Art.This album has13 songs that range from punk to techno to rock to pop to disco etc. etc.It Goes Off!!Now, by far the best album goes to Shihad with The General Electric. These guys have been big in NZ for a while but this album has allready gone top10 in Oz as well as debuting at #1 in NZ.Check out there website at shihad.com.Hope this helped Danp6.Oh,Tim get a life !!

amanda

and the album of the year goes to..............................The Battle of Los Angeles by Rage Against The Machine

Jason
The best album of the year is Metallica's "S & M". Metallica has been around a long time and they are the ONLY band that has the talent to perform their classics with an orchestra. You get one of one those trendy ass bands like Korn or Limp Biskit to to EVER have the talent to do what Metallica does and I'll pull a rabbit out of my ass!!!!

J.C.
Godsmack,Limp Bizkit,Static X,and Rage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom
To mark and tripster. guys that album was named album of the year here last year. how can they include it two years in a row? I saw it here last year and ordered it and you guys are right it kicks! I have since gotten all of their albums and I count them among my fav's now.

Tripster
Enuff Znuff without a doubt had the best album of the year, and I can't believe they only had one mention so far. You people gotta hear this album and check out this band again.

Mark
ENUFF ZNUFF released the best album of 1999 with PARAPHERNALIA. In fact, this is one of the best albums of the 90's, and despite this, no radio play. Watch for this band to return with a huge splash in the next decade. The world will definitely take notice of Enuff Znuff again.

Mark
ENUFF ZNUFF

RaZX
Silverchair unleashes with another kick ass album Neon ballroom

Hey! Santana did a great job, especially with Rob Thomas in Smooth, so it is one of the very bests.

Rage Against the Machine kicks ass, period.

kalven
creed eats it, what about KoRn, and what about the rap-rock album of the year.

Richard
Fantomas, Everlast, RATM, Stereophonics, Lit, Foo Fighters the list goes on.... fantastic!

Anne R. Key
i think i would have to pick either Simon Says CD, Jump Start, or Anti-Flags A new kind of army. simon says has great hard rock bass and guitar, an awesome drummer, and a great vocalist. they have great songwriting skills. plus theyre great in concert. Anti-Flag is just a great anti-american punk band straight out of the amish country of pennsylvania. i was so stoked when i heard their new album. i think these bands should get some more respect.

Cole
allright, all you so called rage fans upset me. there is a person who sez guerilla radio is the cd, the battle of los angeles is incredible, but their self titled cd is the best. peace

Adam
Metallica S&M, Rage Against the Machine

Derrick Carr
SlipKnot Is The Best And So Is Korn. How Could You Leave These Two awsome bands out?

Glimmer Man
Yo I want to thatnk you rocknworld.com dudes. I got the Neurotica cd today because you recommended it and it kicks major a$$!!!!

Blitzkrieg
Rage Against the Machine: Guerilla Radio

death clown
were is slipknot? I havent them on here for anything. There is just a little something wrong there. There are one of the best new bands there are and no credit given to the out of this world album.

FARFANET
IS THERE ANOTER DISC OF HARD ROCK? OF COURSE CREED IS COOL!!

Ricky
Eptein's Mother? Those guys are cool. God I am surprised anyone here knows about them, I saw them at the House of Blues in Vegas with Inside Scarlet and they brought the house down. anyone know what they are up to? did they ever release an album? now you got me obsessing... oh yeah best album of the year that's hard i would say it's a tie between the Counting Crows and Megadeth at least those were the two i listened to the most this year.

Carmen
Tonic is great. just because they don't tend to play trendy types of music is no reason to bash them. they are doing their own thing and i respect them for it.

Marianne
Hey Matt Jeffrey WAYYYYY back there, I agree. Tool is definitely one of the best, if not THE best......Anyway, for 1999 NIN- The Fragile is the greatest by a LONG shot. Rage was awsome as well though. I can't believe so many people chose Tonic. They are horrible.....,

sweathog
Epstein's Mother

Danp6
I live in an area where there really aren't any good rock radio stations. So I spend much of my time searching the net for new groups that have a quality sound. I really like this years releases by Filter, Korn, Rage, OLP, DOTN & Blink 182 to name a few. Does anyone know of any other bands that aren't a huge success yet, but are really cool. A few bands that I really like that aren't huge are Showoff, Stroke 9, Guster, Caroline's Spine, and Vast. I'd like to thank this site for introducing me to Marvelous 3. I'd have to disagree about Tonic though. Their new album was a let down in my opinion. Thanks!

Nick
RATM, The Battle of Los Angeles combines the furiuos lyrics of Zach de la Rocha and the most influencial guitarist of the 90's, Tom Morello

Danny
I love The Battle of Los Angeles. Another instant classic from Rage Against the Machine

Neiffer
311, Sugar Ray and Lit!!!!!!!

Emily
Marcy Playground- Shapeshifter

Mason
Drain S.T.H. is by far one of the most underrated bands out there. They somehow manage to combine both melodies and heavy riffs, which isn't easy(trust me, try to write a song that way). Oh yeah, THESE FOUR GIRLS ROCK THEIR F***ING A$$ES OFF!

chad
Godsmack & Staind

Best album- Bryan Adams- The best of me
It's cool and rockin'

VanessaM.Goodwin -aka- Dizzy 1836@cs.com
GOO GOO DOLLS!!!!!!!!!!!the goo goo dolls have submitted many great albums into the rock&pop world. We love their music so let's show'em how much we love them by awarding them a place on the top!! GGD's rocked the house all through the 90's!!!!!give them so credit!!and let's hope they have plenty more s!#t to rock uus with in the new milliniuem!!!!! rock on goo's!!!!!!

Geezer
Here I am!! 48 years old--Metallica S&M belongs here

Tracy
Savage Garden is by far the best!! Their new CD Affrimation is great!

BL0W ME MOTHERFUKERS!!!
Slipknot and Incubus are not on there? F*ck all of you!! Kiss my hairy a$$! And what about Primus's Antipop?

Steve
311 cannot be denied. After seeing them on their current tour, there is no way anyone could walk away from their shows unhappy. This band is musically talented, and everything they try, they succeed at. They pioneered rap-rock before any of the current losers on Mtv who shall remain nameless, and they put out a solid, perfect album this year. They deserve their credit!

Steve
This thing won't let me say what I need to say. It tells me I can't use "that language" yet I haven't used anything innapropriate. Unless you call asking that 311 be recognized as "foul language"

It's a good thing that Korn and Limp Bizkit are recent, otherwise, they'd never be appear anywhere as "best bands ever". In 5 years none of you will be buying their albums, because they'll be dropped from their labels and doing segments on VH1's "Where Are They Now". RADIOHEAD AND PHISH are THE BEST BANDS of the 90's!!!!!!!!!!!

Tony Landa

Josh
Metallica S&M

I think the image that summed up 1999's music was the shot of Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit emerging out of a giant toilet.

me
New Counting Crows...actual music!

Mr Monday Night
The 90's has music? Could have fooled me

John
Hey nothing the reason tonic is here is because they deserve it. come on I like rage like everyone else, but get real the best album of the year? Tonic has soo much over them in song writing ability, their musicianship and vocals. go listen to their album before you trash it. wether you like it or not, you have to agree it has merit. It is so refreshing to see a list like this one. everyone else has all the trendy bands listed. the fact that I never heard of a few of these bands, tells me you guys go by quality not by who is the most popular.

Herb
my god people!!!! Incubus - Make Yourself was by far the best album of the year!!!

Laura Robles
