Scorpions Final U.S. Concert

The Windy City Gets Rocked by a Hurricane

With the announcement that this will be their final tour, The Scorpions made their stop in the Chicagoland area Saturday night at the Rosemont Theatre. Hitting the stage in front of a capacity crowd, Klaus Meine belted out the title track to their latest CD "Sting in the Tail" followed by "Make It Real" and "Bad Boys Running Wild".

The crowd devoured every second of the rock anthem "The Zoo" like feeding time at the lions cage. Accompanying the mesmerizing vocals of Klaus Meine were the chunky guitar riffs by Rudolph Schenker and Matthias Jabs. The crowd joined Klaus in a sing-along on "The Best Is Yet To Come" which speaks highly for a new song and the devotion the fans have for the Scorpions.

With a resonating whistle by Klaus, the intro into "Winds Of Change" sent the crowd into a frenzy for the time transition back to when the Berlin Wall was torn down with video screens transporting you back to 1989.

With Meine bellowing out "It's a family reunion, right here in Chicago," Michael Schenker joined his brother for an historic version of "Another Piece of Meat." Definitely something to go down in the "Rock" history books.

As drummer James Kottak entertained the audience with a unique drum solo that had videos on the screens behind him, taking you on a visual journey as each video sequence morphed into the artwork of the Scorpions vast album catalog. "Blackout", "Six String Sting", and "Big City Nights" finished off the set and had the crowd eagerly wanting more.

The encore delivered the icing on an evening with true grit rock as the Scorpions belted out "Still Loving You." With a special guest appearance by legendary drummer Carmen Appice, who is on tour with the opening act MSG, the capacity crowd bore witness to another performance for the history books during "No One Like You." As if the capacity crowd could take anymore, "Rock You Like A Hurricane" was played with an updated heavier sound that finished off an amazing evening and left the crowd seething for more.

On the last night of the US leg of their farewell tour, the Scorpions delivered 2 hours of a truly memorable rock-n-roll experience. During the evening, it was hard to tell who was having more fun, the audience or the guys on the stage. The camaraderie between the five guys on stage, is second to none. Other bands may go through the motions where the Scorpions deliver a genuine experience. While there have been farewell tours before only to have the group return a few years later, the rocking world will truly miss one of the greatest bands in the history of music should the sting of The Scorpions truly be extinguished. Hopefully the boys in the band will realize that there truly is no one like them.
