Rock News: Van Halen's lead vocalist quits.
Van Halen is attempting to catch up with Black Sabbath in the number of lead singers one band can have in a career. That's right Gary Cherone is no longer a part of the band. According to a press release from the band issued on November 5th, he left under amicable terms. The release is rather vague on why Cherone left.

"The members of the band, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony,  expressed their appreciation for Gary's work with the band and wished him well in his future endeavors."

Eddie said of Cherone, "Gary is a brother and he and I will continue to have a personal and musical relationship".

Cherone stated, "I had a great time singing with the band and I wish Eddie, Alex and Michael all the best, I'll see 'em in Boston!"

Perhaps it was the disaster that was Van Halen III, the album that critics and fans rejected, that lead Gary to leave the band prior to starting work on his second Van Halen record.

Now there is speculation that Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth will be asked to rejoin the group. Although Sammy has never met David, he stated that he would not rejoin the band unless it included David Lee Roth. That type of reunion with dueling lead vocalist could be just the ticket to re-ignite the Van Halen flame that went out under Cherone. "The only Van Halen reunion, not now, in the future that I'd ever be interested in would be the Sam and Dave tour," stated Hagar recently.

"That's the only way I think I'd even consider it because that would be really special for the fans, and that would be fun and it would be competitive and it would be something to get up for. Other than that, what's the point?" Hagar added when asked about the idea of a Hager/Roth fronted reunited Van Halen.

Sammy released a statement after the announcement of the Cherone departure, so far their has been no word from Diamond Dave. "I only wish the best for Van Halen and Gary. I hope they all continue to make great music and have great success in whatever they do." said Sammy in his latest press release.
