Lucas Cates - Contradictory Review

by Sherrill Fulghum

.
This Madison, Wisconsin native who wants people leaving his shows having had a good time says that his dream venue is the Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Lucas Cates was "found" playing at an open mic night. Besides his debut album "Contradictory" Cates has seen one of his songs "4 Everyone", a rap style song, used by the Cincinnati ballet.

Lucas Cates says that his music comes from within. On the back cover of his album is a picture of Cates sitting with a balanced scale containing a brain and a heart - the two places where music comes from - and everything else in life.

Cates album of 10 original songs is a collections of mostly pop tunes with elements of the blues and rap mixed in.

Cates, who began his musical journey with a trumpet did not pick up the guitar and begin writing songs until he was in college. In a short time this 24 year old has discovered the way to capture your heart and your interest; and he grabs that attention from the very beginning with the album's opening and title track "Contradictory".
