Edel Sullivan - In the Time Of Review
This talented Cork fiddler fervently believes that every person in the world should be able to enjoy music in some way or another – whether it be playing or listening. As a result she not only studied classical violin but has degrees in Music Therapy and Teaching. And on October 21 she released her debut solo album after working with numerous musicians on other works including touring the US as a part of Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance.
On "In the Time Of" Edel Sullivan not only displays her talents as a traditional Irish fiddler; but her skills as a composer and arranger on many of the 13 tunes which appear on the album as well.
Edel's classical training is evident in her work, but the original pieces are written in the style long established as the traditional Irish music sound. Edel has done her homework in what makes a piece of music a traditional sounding tune. The only thing that prevents this masterful piece of work from sounding like an authentic traditional ceili is the addition of a cello and piano on some of the pieces.
With artists like Edel Sullivan to carry on the music and traditions of Irish music the music of the "Emerald Isle" will be a part of music for many generation to come.
