Vulcan Freedom Fighters - Stardate Unknown Review

by Greenmusie

.
We take a slight galactic detour from our normally scheduled Greenmusing for this very special CD review of a GM worthy release! - Now let Greenmuse beam you up!

My name is GM and I have a confession; I like Star Trek, but I assure you I don't live in a basement and only possess one action figure. I can't help it. James Doohan makes a dashing, if slightly rotund action figure. Ever so often there comes an idea that is just so whizz bang good that it makes you say "damn, I wish I would have thought of this", that is the Vulcan Freedom Fighters in a nutshell. This album is much like the series that inspired it: dramatic and soul stirring. But above all this rocks far harder than the old series' rather lame theme song. If these guys were around back in 66 Mr. Rodenberry would've had a shoe in for the theme song of star trek. "Horse stealin scurvy crew" would be the ideal song for Gene's idea of a wagon train to the stars. Its western themed and contains samples from one of the episodes where the lovable crew of the enterprise find themselves in the old west. (I forget how they get there, I haven't seen the show in years). That is pretty much the idea of this album. Samples from the original Star Trek series combined with some crazy ass music. As spacey as it gets and at times can peel the botoxed skin off Joan Rivers with a vengeance .I only hope these guys make another album. It's that good!
