| Vernon Reid and Masque - Other True Self Review by JoFo
 .
I regret to report that the days of the band Living Colour are officially over. Other True Self is not a Vernon Reid solo CD where he builds on, or at least pays passing homage to his past as the terrified guitarist of a band that ended up being a historical foot note alongside Ice T's Body Count. Mebbe Guitar World Magazine's recent-ish article naming his guitar tone as one of the top ten sloppiest on the planet humiliated him so fiercely that now he only makes music for people who like this kinda...uh...stuff. It's an instrumental CD of slow, guitar heavy songs that manage to be catchy & sound pretty good.
It's hard to say exactly what genre he is in now, mebbe adult contemporary? Jazz with guitar solos? Man, what happened to him?! I guess this isn't technically a bad CD, though it's definitely a surprise if you were expecting the Vernon Reid of the old days. Ok, it's prolly like 3 or 4 stars, it's really, really good, if you are into this kinda music. I plan to give it away tonight, though. Shouldn't be too hard to find someone to like it.
