Tony Lucca - Canyon Songs Review

by Ashleigh Hill

.
Canyon Songs Indeed

The world is made up of water, ground, and singer-songwriters. With this knowledge, one must somehow rise above and beyond your average coffee-house entree. In some ways, Tony Lucca does this. His chosen title, Canyon Songs, is a perfect fit. If visiting the bottom of a canyon, or on any other camping trip for that matter, Tony Lucca songs would probably be the ones to sing along to. Lucca's foot-tapping, pretty guitar parts and honest, clear vocals carry Canyon Songs all the way through. However, the LP lacks variety and any astonishing lyrics, a must for the guitar-plus-vocals variety. Still, check out "Death of Me" and "Around the Bend". Lucca is subtle, happy and catchy. Canyon Songs is a good album. Unfortunately "good" never got anybody anywhere important. If the car windows are rolled down and it's nice outside listening to Tony Lucca is entirely appropriate, especially for Jack Johnson or Colin Hay enthusiasts. However, Lucca is missing that "something".
