The Spin Doctors - Nice Talking To Me Review
By Charlotte Hannon

.
Nice Talking To Me (Ruff Nation) is the first new studio album in eleven years by the original Spin Doctors: Chris Barron (lead vocals), Eric Schenkman (guitar, vocals), Mark White (bass), and Aaron Comess (drums).

First signed to Epic records in 1990 The Spin Doctors released their first full length album Pocket Full Of Kryptonite in 1991, it took it's time getting off the ground but after intense hard work touring, the album ultimately cracked the top ten and sold over five million copies in the US. 1994 saw the release of their second album Turn It Upside Down followed by another heavy round of touring which sent the album platinum. You've Got to Believe In Something, followed in 1996 and Here Comes the Bride in 1999 (on new label Uptown/Universal and with a replacement guitar player Anthony Kirzan.) It was at this point that all the intense touring took it's toll. Mark White left the band then Chris Barron lost his voice to an attack of vocal cord paralysis and The Spin Doctors called it a day.

Seven years later a one-nighter reunion gig of the original band led to a tour and some writing and then a renewed interest in recording. The end result Nice Talking To Me is a gem. The chemistry of the band that was so apparent on their debut album is back in full force. The hiatus has only added renewed energy and more fuel to the band's writing. For long time fans you won't be disappointed, for those not acquainted with The Spin Doctors you're in for a treat. It's one of those albums that you'd be hard pressed to choose a personal favorite. The more you listen the more those melodies stick until every track ends up rotating into that favorite position. This is solid rock. Chris Barron's vocals are stronger than ever and catchy as hell too. The musicianship is really solid. Produced by Matt Wallace (Faith No More, the Replacements, Sheryl Crow, Maroon 5), Nice Talking To Me is a Dual Disc with a DVD containing live performance footage from the Spin Doctors' UK/European tour in March 2005.
