Overnight - Beat the Drum til They Follow Review

by Ashleigh Hill

.
Rock n' Roll, Again.

Let's get this out of the way right up front. Overnight is a good band. Beat the Drums til They Come is a good cd. However, the world of rock and roll expands far too fast for "good". Overnight is very consistent. Any listener can tell the band cares about their music. The song "Sorry" is a celebration of guitars, setting the stage for a whole slew of tracks deserving much better than the "next" button. With its Franz Ferdinand vocals and beat It's Time maintains the best track status until the end although "Victims and Volunteers" gives it a run for its money.

Overall, the cd is impressive. If the world were perfect, Overnight would figure out this whole typical rock and roll thing and move on to something bigger and better. Beat the Drum til They Follow exhibits no weak knees originality; it's the prototypical rock cd of 2006. We've heard this band before. Still, let's hear them again.
