Nine Black Alps - Everything Is Review

by Eric Bodrero

.
Generous amounts of punk riffs over a bed of steaming hot screaming vocals are the order of the day for this Manchester, England indie rock foursome. A band that gets their name from Sylvia Plath's poem "The Couriers" seemed to have scored big with Spin, since they've made it all the way to the top two bands of the year, fighting it out against The Cribs for the next couple of months to see who can tally up the most attendance at their live shows. So go be supportive. Nine Black Alps already beat out Bloc Party and Magic Numbers, a seemingly impossible task after seeing all the popularity the aforementioned bands have garnered in the past year or so.

Regardless if they win or lose, Nine Black Alps are making quite a stir in the music scene with their catchy and fun approach to punk/indie music in the form of their debut album Everything Is, that is at one moment roof rocking, and the next as gentle as a mother's lullaby, as is the case with the tracks "Behind Your Eyes" and "Intermission", which have a sweet ballad-like feel to them with a simple instrument, both crammed and ostensibly lost in a sea of banging drums, pounding guitars and demanding but controlled vocals.

Nine Black Alps' Everything Is is pure energetic indie rock that is sure to make it to your CD player sooner or later, so you may as well just grab this disc and give in now. Already out since June of last year in the U.K, by the time you read this I'm sure it'll be available at all the finer record stores across the country. Heck, they've already toured with Weezer and Kaiser Chiefs, what else is there?
