The Laura Smith Quartet - Adult Entertainers, Child Educators Review

by Morley Seaver

.
Hmmm. Kind of like Sade for the cooler kids. The Laura Smith Quartet play a brand of rock with slivers of folk, jazz and dance that aim straight for your feet at times and your head at others. Smith has a terrific voice that usually glides along gently pulling the song to its conclusion. Occasionally, however, she breaks out like she does in "Never See the Sun" and gives us a hint of what she can do. "All Right, All Ready" is the high point of the record with its rock solid rhythm and Metric-like vocals.

Laid-back and unassuming, this record will sneak up on you when you're not looking and if you're like me, will be surprised and pleased.
