The Kelly Richey Band - Speechless Review

by Gary Schwind

.
It doesn't take long to figure out that Speechless is a great title for this album. Once you hear Kelly Richey play guitar, you might be speechless too. Kelly Richey can flat-out wail on the guitar. The first track ("One Day We'll Feel the Sun") reminds me of SRV. A few tracks later on "Climb the Highest Mountain," Richey does her best impression of Jimi Hendrix with plenty of feedback. Yeah, she's good enough to get compared to SRV and Jimi.

Kelly Richey's guitar chops aren't the only things that leave me speechless. The sound of this CD is so big, it's hard to believe that the Kelly Richey Band is only a trio. I haven't heard a sound this big from a trio since Grand Funk Railroad (coincidentally, Kelly Richey is also from the great state of Ohio).

This is a great instrumental blues/psychedelic rock CD. If you love guitar and generally big sounds, you need to pick this album up. I'm willing to bet that a) you'll probably put this CD on repeat and b) that you'll get lots of air guitar practice listening to it.
