Hard Rock Treasures Review

by Zane Ewton

.
Hard Rock Treasures is a little behind-the-scenes documentary that follows Don Bernstine across the country collecting memorabilia from rock and roll's heaviest hitters. The guitars, clothes and in one case an automobile gets rotated around all the Hard Rock Café's across the globe.

Bernstine is a rock and roll dinosaur. He has gray hair, an eyebrow piercing and mentions his brief employment with Deep Purple far too much. He obviously loves music though and his admiration makes this DVD more fun that it really should be. It also helps that some legendary rock stars let him into their homes and studios to share some of their most memorable possessions.

Bernstine has incredible access and the names he meets with are astounding. Tony Iommi, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, Jimmy Page, Brian Johnson, James Hetfield and members of Judas Priest, Aerosmith, Slayer, Slipknot, Styx, and many more all offer up some fantastic rock memorabilia and the stories behind them.

A little bit of the history of the Hard Rock is fleshed out and you will realize how absurd it is that millions of dollars are spent in auction houses and in museum gadgets. Graceland includes temperature controlled rooms that house items the public will probably never see.

The special features include some wonderful footage of Dimebag Darrel and Vinnie Paul. Dimebag welcomes Bernstine into his home with open arms and incredible generosity. Almost two years since Dimebag passed and he is still sorely missed. His Ace Frehley impersonation is worth the price of admission alone.
