Boy Kill Boy - Civilian Review

by Zane Ewton

.
New Music Express, that mountain of music journalism superiority in the UK, printed "It's not so much a case of 'Most likely to'. Boy Kill Boy are being talked about as rock's 'Most definitely going to'." NME says roughly the same thing for every British band setting its sights on America.

Boy Kill Boy employs the same tools so many other new bands are using this year. The beat is driving, guitars chime and new wave keyboards punctuate every song. As tiresome as this whole 80's revival is becoming, Civilian is a picture perfect record. Boy Kill Boy channel The Cure, Duran Duran, or an army of other stylish bands from that lipstick-smeared age to make a record that is dramatic, catchy and shows signs of what could be.

If Boy Kill Boy could lean toward the more timeless qualities of their music they should be able to survive the inevitable 80's revival burnout. This band is definitely way better than The Killers.

Unfortunately that means they may have some trouble catching on in the states. The U.S. and England have always had an odd musical relationship. Oasis is still considered rock gods over there but has been forgotten in the states since1996, but the Ramones had to leave New York for London for anyone to notice them. Who knows?
