Chelsea Smiles

.
For this week's 2&2 we had the pleasure of speaking with Skye from Chelsea Smiles as the band was winning over fans in Texas supporting Social Distortion. We asked Skye about their new album, 'Thirty Six Hours Later,' which hits stores today, his abrupt departure from Bullets and Octane and more.

2&2: I heard there was a little bit of controversy with your exit from Bullets And Octane. Can you tell us a little bit about what happened?

Skye: To make a long story short I got fired for writing too many songs for the band. Gene was pissed about me writing his lyrics and drawing to much attention away from him on stage, "stealing his thunder" as he put it. A week before we started Pre-production Gene went to the rest of the band, the manager and the label saying either I was fired or he would quit. So I was fired and Jack(the other guitarist at the time)Quit. Its alot easier to replace a guitarist then a front man you know? They continued to record the album using songs I wrote with out my permission or payment for the use of them...But as they say....s*** happens.

2&2: Seems like your leaving that band was a blessing in disguise as Chelsea Smiles have a lot of buzz building around you guys right now. Can you tell us how you landed the gig with the band?

Skye: A buddy of mine was the guitar tech for the band at the time Christen(former guitarist) left. There tech, Vince, suggested that I may be interested in playing with them. We met up and things worked out.

2&2: Given yours and Todd's past bands (Bullets And Octane, Black Market Saints, Danzig, D Generation, Motorhead, Son of Sam and Murphy's Law) which quite a diverse lot, people may make some assumptions about your sound. How would you describe your music to someone that hasn't heard it?

Skye: We are all fans of the Stones, Thunders, and The New York Dolls. Although we aren't looking to sound like any of these bands you will here the influence.

2&2: What are some of your favorite tracks from the new album?

Skye: I think "HeartAttact" and "You Cant Get Give Me Anything" are my favorite two.

2&2: Now after our readers go out and buy the CD after reading this interview they're gonna wanna see you guys live. What are your tour plans for the rest of the year? Anything big planned after that?

Skye: Well we're on the road with Social D now in Texas. Which is going ridiculously well. After this we have a west coast tour planned and we leave for Europe March 6th for a little over a month. The best way to keep up with us is through our myspace site. Hell that's how I know what we are up to half the time.
