Mikey Doling (Soulfly/Snot)

.
This week we speak with Mikey Doling of Snot / Soulfly fame about his brand new label, new band and more.

2&2: Congrats on the new label (GridIron Records), can you tell us about who is involved and what inspired you to start the label?

Mikey: I was in a band in the 90s called SNOT...and then after that I was in SOULFLY...We (soulfly) we're touring with the mighty PANTERA in 2001...We were in New Orleans after the show hanging on the bus drinking beers and on walks KYLE YURLEY at the time he was playing for The Saints....He asked who the guy from Snot was, I said," me!!", and turns out he was a big SNOT fan!! From there we were bros!! Kyle was ended up living in LA in 2004..so he'd come hang out at the studio where I was producing a lot of local bands at the time...he'd always say, "Mikey, we should start our own record company." I was scared to death because that's a major responsibility. He kept bringing it up about it and I was going out in LA and seeing a lot of young bands out there, and all of the sudden it hit me!! So I called Kyle and I said," LETS DO THIS!!"

2&2: Obviously since you've been in successful bands (Snot / Soulfly for the readers that don't know) you've probably seen things done by labels that you didn't agree with. What was the most frustrating and what things do you plan to do differently with GridIron Records.

Mikey: well, I'm not sure how to answer that. I was always a band guy, so I guess I would be more understanding to the band's needs. When they come to me with questions or need's, I'll get it before some collage grad who's never toured or even has been in band!!

2&2: We'll get to the other releases next but let's talk about your new band, INVITRO. Can you tell us a little bit about the band, who's in it and what kind of music you guys play? When's the album coming out? Think you'll tour behind it?

Mikey: I started my new band INVITRO; who's four of the coolest and most talented musicians I could've possibly found. The guitar player, Mike Piggmie and drummer, Benny Cancino were in a band together called, The Wizards. I was a big fan of theirs, so I asked them to start a new band with me along with bass player, Brad Dujmovic and singer, J Vipers. We started jamming together and there was a instant chemistry. Since then it's been a 2 years and now we're recording a debut album coming out in 2007.

2&2: What other releases do you have on the horizon?

Mikey: The band called, The Hairbrain Scheme. These guys are the most original band I've heard in years. I really believe in this band. I will work my ass off to get it out to the people so they can enjoy it as much as I do. We've got more bands in a process of signing, but we'll keep you posted.

2&2: Again, congrats on the new label. Can't wait to hear the upcoming releases and let our readers know about them.

Mikey: Thanks! If you'd like to hear some music, go to www.myspace.com/gridironrecords.
