Megadeth - Greatest Hits: Back To The Start Review
by Dustin Hupe

.
In 1983, after being fired from Metallica for being too much of an alchoholic, Dave Mustaine got together with bass player David Ellefson, guitarist Kerry King, and drummer Lee Rausch and form Megadeth. Shortly after Kerry King resumed his place in Slayer, and Dave Mustaine became the singer as well as guitarist. Chris Poland later filled Kerry King's spot and Megadeth was signed to Combat Records. In 1985 Megadeth released Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good, this was the start of the phenomenon called Megadeth.

It's been over twenty years since Megadeth's creation and the list of accomplishments is nearly endless. With fourteen albums (not including reissues), and a touring history that includes Overkill, Mercyful Fate, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Iron Maiden, Dio, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, and Testament. They've also been featured on movie soundtracks for Wes Craven's Shocker, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, Super Mario Bros, Tales From The Crypt: Demon Knight, and Universal Soldier 2 featured the song "Crush ,Em which later became a WCW theme song. The line-up has changed many times but the theme stays the same, while other bands were writing whiny songs, Megadeth wrote about corruption, Toxic Waste and all the things wrong with the world.

Back To The Start is a seventeen track collection of Megadeth's best stuff including, "Peace Sells," "Sweating Bullets," "Angry Again," "Symphony of Destruction," "Wake Up Dead," "Skin O' My Teeth," and "Prince of Darkness." The liner notes were written by Penelope Spheeris who directed the Wake Up Dead video and the track listing was the result of a massive poll on the Megadeth website, the only thing missing in my opinion is "Foreclosure of a Dream" but the album has already moved onto my favorites list. If you've ever been a fan of Megadeth this CD is like an impulse buy, must have, shoplift it album, so check it out.
