The High Speed Scene Review
by Kevin Wierzbicki

.
Like I normally do before I finish my review of a CD, I went to the band's Website to see what might be shakin'. I usually click around the pages because you can find the weirdest stuff in the weirdest places. When I got to the "merch" page for the High Speed Scene, I couldn't help but snicker when I saw all of their t-shirts listed with only "boy" sizes. For a minute I thought maybe I'd punched up the Wiggles' Site by mistake. But then I was right back to worrying about that pimple glowing on the bridge of my nose and hoping that Barbara Jo wouldn't notice it. I knew I'd see her out behind the gym where we go to sneak a smoke.

The High Speed Scene makes music for their little brothers and they make no bones about it. You can just imagine the little dude's eyes growing wide as he listens to the first few words of "For the Kids;" "I ride my BMX/I smoke my Cali weed/I dig on NOFX/Rich kids on LSD…" What a tantalizing forbidden menu for Junior to drool over! The cool kid in "The IROC-Z Song" is catching the babes by "Spinning donuts out in front of Taco Bell" and the windows steam up in "Crazy Star;" "Kicking back with my Crazy Star/Making out in her parent's car." So really it's no surprise that the t-shirts are listed in boy sizes. But guess what, Bucko? This is a fun record. You probably won't want to own it if you're over 15, but if you're ever around a youngster who's playing it, just smile and give them an all-knowing nod. You'll make their day.
