John Howard - This Game of Life Review

by Gary Schwind

.
John Howard begins this 5-song EP with "She's So Complicated," a catchy tune, but a bit unrealistic. I mean, there's no such thing as a complicated woman, right? But seriously, this song features pretty solid vocals (both lead and harmony) and good arrangement. It's a simple and well-done pop/rock song.

The background vocals lend a gospel feel to "With a Little Faith in Us," which might be the gem of the EP.

John Howard has been compared to James Taylor and I'll admit he has similar songwriting abilities. I think the best examples of the comparison to James Taylor are in "We Bump Into Each Other" and "There She Is."

This isn't rocket science. It's an EP composed of five very simple, yet well-crafted songs. And who ever said that it has to be rocket science, anyway? John Howard has real talent as a songwriter and displays it very well in this brief EP.
