Emmy Cerra - Metamorphic Review

by Morley Seaver

.
I didn't like this record when I first played it but it's wearing on me the more I play it. Cerra writes good songs and can sing well at times. Other times, she smears the note across the staff, and on occasion it's a bit painful.

The first two cuts, "You Had Me" and "Unshallow" are the best two by far of the set. The former has a great chorus which showcases Cerra's strong voice. The latter also features some powerful singing on top of a great song. On the other side of the coin is "Chemical Cell" which is almost unlistenable.

Metamorphic sounds like a work in progress. There are elements here which suggest that Cerra has a future. A producer next time out might be a wise move as there are just too many weak points that slipped by.
