A Rock Web Master speaks

The managing editor of Rock n world and web master of peachfuzz the unauthorized Enuff Znuff fan page tell his secrets on how to increase Traffic to your band, or fan page.

I began a Trading post page for the band Enuff Znuff about two years ago, and did get quite a bit of traffic, nothing major, but some. Then a friend of mine who was doing a fan page for the same band asked me to take over as web master of the page.

The traffic to the site was dismal, maybe 3 hits a day. From May 19, 1997 to November 30 The site got a total of 1200 hits. So the first thing I did to draw more traffic, was to redesign the page. Then I got a domain for the page, you can check it out at http://www.peachfuzz.org. The next major addition I made to the page, was to add a trivia page, and asked other fans to email me with information on the band. The response was great, and traffic started to pick up. Besides it made the site feel more like a fan page, with other fans contributing. One other thing I started doing that increased traffic, besides new pages, was to make two or three updates a week. But the secret ingredient, was to add the sights n sounds page. It has real videos and Audio clips from the band, mostly from bootlegs, I have. After that my traffic, went through the roof. Put it this way, from May to Nov. 30 we had 1200 hits, From Dec 1 to April 1, 1998 we have gotten 22,000 hits. What that shows is in order bring more people to your band or fan page, the magic ingredients are trivia, or info on the band. Content  besides the usual discography and members names, I am talking about tid bits. Secondly,  make frequent updates, it takes a little time but the pay off is worth it. Finally and most importantly in my case, was to add real audio and videos to the site, making sure to add new songs every week.

Five major changes I made to increase traffic

  • Added Trivia and facts about the band.
  • Asked other fans for input
  • Added real audio and Videos
  • Made 2 or 3 updates to the site a week
  • Post all updates to a What's new page, so fans didn't have to surf around to find updates.
The whole point of have a fan page is to promote the band, and by increasing traffic you are doing just that. There are most likely some other things like advertising that could increase traffic, but those cost money, this stuff that I have found doesn't cost anything but time, and willingness. Besides, it is a lot of fun.
