| Bio
from Crypt's LA Guns Page
A lot
of fans want to know how we got together, What are the other guys doing,
Stuff like that... I’ll try to answer those questions now...
Chris
and I (Crypt) were in a band called “Boneyard” (to see a picture of Boneyard
go to Johnnys page) playing around L.A., Hollywood... I was a guitar player
at the time (that’s what I did) Boneyard was a two guitarist band...
anyway, The other guitar player in the band was going to buy some equipment
out of one of the local papers (the recycler) and it turned out that it
was Tracii Guns selling the stuff.. boneyard had a show that night at a
club in North Hollywood called F.M. Station, So he invited Tracii to come
to the soundcheck that afternoon... Tracii stayed for the soundcheck, and
later that night he shows up with Steve Riley.. They watched the show,
and when we were finished playing, Chris and I went over to talk to them
and Tracii says...”I want you two guys in L.A. Guns” I looked at him an
said “Are you drunk” he kinda of smiled and said No, I’m serious... Ok,
I said then call us tomorrow and ask us again... (I know that was pretty
risky huh?) Well we had a show that next night at The Roxy, Tracii, Steve,
Kelly Nickels, and their road crew, manager, attourney, Everyone from the
L.A. Guns camp shows up... We did the show, and Tracii comes up to Chris
and I and says “You guys are in L.A. Guns” well it was probably the best
thing I’ve ever heard, (besides yes that’s the spot baby) Anyway, L.A.
Guns was officially split up at that point, Tracii, Steve and Kelly were
going to do Killing Machine... So that next night Chris and I go over to
Tracii’s house and record “Give” the first song we wrote together... We
all get together about a week later and start rehearsing, I’m still playing
guitar at this point because Kelly is still in the band.. We got some interest
from a record lable that turned out to be bogus... this along with some
other let downs in the past was a little to much for Kelly.. He decided
he wanted to get a steady job doing computer design.. I used to do that
stuff myself, and tried to talk him out of it saying I know he wouldn’t
be happy not playing.. Actually everyone tried to talk him out of leaving,
but he made up his mind to quit and did... As Kelly was tearing down his
gear Tracii turned to me and said, “ Johnny would you consider playing
Bass? “ I thought about it for about a minute and said I’ll give it a try,
and that’s how we got the current lineup... When Kelly was in the
band we were going to change the name.. At first we were “Plow” then that
changed to “Das Plow” and finally “Nog Das Plow” but no one could understand
what we were saying... (It didn’t mean anything, we just made it up.) so
we tried again, the next attempt was “Bitterfinger” we were that for a
short period of time, but it sounded like a candy bar.. we kicked around
“The Creeps”, “WhoopieCat” and a few other names that never made it...
Finally we looked at each other and said Screw it.. let’s just stay L.A.Guns.. |
