Biography
After making our first record we went and hit the road and within a couple months became this different band. We were playing all the radio festivals, and we went out and had to start playing harder and playing to a bigger audience...it’s just like a whole different deal so George started bashing and all of the sudden next thing you know we were playing our hearts out.

Most of the lyrical content on the first album was written mostly about things of the world you know, like world view and after being on the road all over the world for three years and then coming home and writing songs again, it’s like all the lyrics seem to be really introspective.

Our first record we were saving the world more I think. I don’t know. We had more of these subjects. And now, after three years on the road we’re like saving ourselves.

It’s a brush pattern which is kind of weird because it’s not really a traditional one. I just kind of was trying to make the sound of an old record. You know that kind of (imitates brush noise) kind of sound that old records make.

(interviewer): Was that the first song you wrote on guitar? When I sat down writing about it, I don’t know why...I think I was in a really stressed kind of space where basically the only peace I had in my life was when I had to go to sleep at night. I try to put myself in a space where instead of having nightmares I’m actually dreaming about good things.
We track a song in one room and get a complete take and then we’ll track a song in another room.

The five of us are all so outspoken that if something gets past our critique usually it’s pretty good. Because we’re harsh.

This is where it all goes on. This is the techno-shed. We had a dead mouse that was caught behind the material I had against the windows here. JR says it was because my music killed the mice.

Truth Serum’s about the need to know how somebody feels about something and then once they really tell you kind of wishing you didn’t know. It’s kind of out of the need or wish to be able to like give somebody the drug. You could ask them any question and they would tell you straight-up what it is that they feel about that. I’ve gotten to this point where I don’t necessarily trust anybody any more.

For being such a peaceful place, it’s kind of deceiving because a lot of wacky nature things have ended up happening. Along this ridge back up here there was a fire...all the firefighters were using this house as a base and they were siphoning the water out of this pool to fight the fire.
You know there was snow up here yesterday? Well there was. For the most part, having the bad weather’s kept us all up here, kept us all focused you know. You’re not really tempted by anything out-doorsy. So you’re pretty much ok with being locked inside 16 hours a day. (laughs)
